NanoDay 2009

Nanoscience for everyone

What is behind the term "Nanoscience"? This question was answered at the NanoDay 2009 by around 100 scientists of the Nanosystems Initiative Munich (NIM). The presentation took place on November 19 in the Center for New Technologies (ZNT) of the Deutsches Museum that had been opened by German President Horst Köhler only two days before. The scientists explained their current reserach projects at more than 25 stands to many interested visitors. The invisibly small objects of study became literally tangible by particular experimental models like replacing electrons by chocolate eggs or in the form of oversized wood patterns. Furthermore many scientists presented computer simulations to deliver insight into their field of research.

Also the stage program arose public interest in Nanoscience. Scientific talks alternated with the performances of two famous German science journalists, Willi Weitzel (known from „Willi wills wissen“) and Jean Pütz. Therefore, being schoolchild or grown-up: there was a lot to discover about Nanoscience for everyone.
