Gender activities of NIM
NIM is supporting gender equality within the Cluster with the following initiatives:
Quarterly meetings for all interested female scientists
These meetings provide an opportunity for a regular exchange and to get to know each other. The female scientists are made aware of the latest updates on gender issues. They can express their wishes and suggest improvements.
Committees, Workshops and Colloquia
NIM pursues an increase in the number of female scientists on its committees, at workshops and colloquia thereby purposely addressing more female scientists and inviting more female speakers.
Exchange with female speakers
After or during a workshop or colloquium, interested female scientists have the opportunity to meet with female speakers in order to learn about their careers, their decision-making processes and their current situations.
Suggestion of a mentor for female students and PhD-Students
If female students and PhD-students ask for a research mentor, NIM can provide suggestions. A research mentor will act as a ‘role model’ and advise on career management and the development of the student’s scientific profile.
Training courses
Training courses offered at the LMU and the participating universities and institutes of NIM are open to all interested female NIM students and junior researchers. NIM will bear the costs for these courses.
Laboratory support
Female Scientists with children of pre-school age or during pregnancy can request laboratory support in form of a student trainee. NIM will pay € 400 per month towards their employment.
NIM Mentoring Program (NIMm)
Female and male PhD-students are coaching highly motivated and highly skilled sixth-formers in order to awaken their interest for the Nanosciences.
