Prof. Vasilis Ntziachristos from the  Institute of Biological and Medical Imaging at the Helmholtz Zentrum München and Prof. Gooitzen Michell van Dam, University Medical Center Groningen, share the Erwin-Schrödinger Award 2011. Together they developed a molecular imaging technology that for the first time allows to detect cancer cells real time within the operating room. Therefore the scientists work with fluorescent labelled cells and a fluorescence camera.
