NIM nanosystems initiative munich

Looking forward to working with you!

After serving eight years at the helm of NIM, our coordinator Jochen Feldmann has decided to step down and to entrust another colleague with the coordination of the cluster. Recently, the members of NIM have elected me to be his successor as cluster coordinator.

I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank Jochen in the name of all members of NIM for his outstanding and successful leadership during these years! Under his guidance NIM has evolved into a highly productive institution in nanoscience with strong international visibility. The successful proposal preparation for the second funding period and for the new Nano-Institute in downtown Munich were certainly highlights during Jochen’s term as NIM coordinator. We have been fortunate to be able to develop these and many other activities with the excellent support of the NIM Business Office, the NIM Executive Committee and Advisory Board, and the Presidents of the participating universities.

What will the future bring? Which are the exciting research directions in nanoscience? The impending new organization of the Excellence Initiative, the positioning of the NIM cluster regarding both research and organization, as well as the preparation of a new proposal for future funding will be important challenges in the coming years. I trust that together we can successfully meet these challenges, such that nanoscience in Munich continues to be as lively and successful as ever. I look forward to working with you to make this vision come true.

Thomas Bein
