“Shaping the future with Nano” was the topic of the Nanosystems Initiative Munich (NIM) and the Center for Nanoscience (CeNS) joint stand on the 17th Münchner Wissenschaftstage. General subject of this year´s event was – “Future plans – research, society, mankind”.

The 17th Münchner Wissenschaftstage took place in the Old Congress Hall close to the Theresienwiese from 25th until the 28th November 2017. This year´s general subject – “Future plans – research, society, mankind” focused on the future and how we can be part of the developments.

“Shaping the future with Nano” was the topic of the Nanosystems Initiative Munich (NIM) and the Center for Nanoscience (Opens external link in new windowCeNS) joint stand. Shortly after the opening of the Wissenschaftstage on Saturday morning, the stand was well attended by interested visitors of all ages.
Already the smallest could get a feeling for “nano” playing with “magical sand” and ferrofluids, or building paper viruses or DNA double helices. We also demonstrated an atomic force microscope-hands-on model and photonic crystals. On all four days scientist working in different NIM and CeNS groups were present to enthusiastically explain their research and answer questions of the visitors and school classes. The newly knowledge gained from the discussions and the posters could be used right away to answer our little “Nano-Quiz”. “Selfies in the lab” were the perfect memory and a kicker-tournament with nanoparticles against cancer cells could round up the “nano experience”.
