Lars Onsager Lecture Prize for Peter Hänggi

The Norwegian University of Science and Technology Trondheim awards the Lars Onsager Lecture 2011 to the NIM member Prof. Peter Hänggi (University Augsburg).

The prize was established in 1993 in honor of the Norwegian-American chemist and physicist Lars Onsager. Born 1903 in Oslo, he received his degree at the Trondheim University in 1925. In 1928 Onsager emigrated to the USA, became Professor at Yale and received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1968 (Work on irreversible thermodynamics).

The Lars Onsager Lecture is an award for outstanding scientists in the scientific fields of Lars Onsager: Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. In 2010 the Lecture was presented by Ingrid Daubechies, professor for Mathematics, Princeton University, USA.
