On July 5, 2012 the first Nano Short Film Festival "Nanospots" took place in Halle. The idea of the organizers (i.a. University Halle-Wittenberg) was to use short films to bring nanotechnology closer to the public. At the festival they presented the Top Ten films out of which the audience crowned the three best.

Two of the ten films are strongly connected with NIM. The contribution "Spontane molekulare Selbstanordnung" from Prof. Wolfgang Höhl and his students was thematically supported by NIM graduate students. The film "Poröse Nanopartikel" was produced by a graduate student from the group of the NIM member Prof. Bein.
